TRAINING | Personal and professional development

The Metro training team is responsible for internal skills and professional development and external training of customers, partners and suppliers.

The team’s remit encompasses induction and product training, mandatory and safety training, technical skills and soft skills, not typically taught in the classroom, such as the ability to work with a wide variety of people, time management and the ability to prioritise.

Undergraduate programme

Metro’s placement year programme provides undergraduates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic and demanding logistics environment. The undergraduates will develop their people skills and gain practical knowledge of the supply chain and automotive logistics. They undertake a wide range of tasks and responsibilities which includes working with carriers as well as transport planning and supply chain optimisation.

Automotive Sales

Due to continued growth in our key verticals, we are looking to appoint an experienced/senior salesperson to promote our Airfreight, Seafreight, Import & Export shipping services within the automotive sector.

Job Specifications

Initiating contact with potential clients
Proactively identify potential opportunities for new business
Proactively identify ways to grow revenue with existing clients
Arranging and attending sales meetings
Gaining verified information regarding potential customer’s freight requirements
Presenting sales tenders
Account management

Personal Specifications

Thorough understanding of Airfreight, Seafreight, Import and Export shipping
Extensive network within aviation, ocean freight and logistics
Proven track record of sales within the automotive sector
Proven success of meeting and exceeding targets
Commercially astute
Able to work independently

Ocean Export Operator

Work within a department to ensure freight is moved to customer specifications, on time, with all necessary customs and legal documentation completed.

Job Specifications

Develop and build relationships to ensure a high level of customer service is provided to clients.
Arrange haulage with shipping line/hauliers.
Invoice and check freight prior to dispatch.
Ensure pre-alert documents are on hand as required.
Resolve/escalate requests and queries quickly and efficiently.
Communicate with overseas agents, customers and suppliers clearly and precisely to ensure that the freight is moved as per customer requirements.
Use customer ERP and SAP systems as and when required.
Accurately & timely reporting/escalation to department manager.

Personal Specifications

A minimum of 1 years’ experience in ocean freight forwarding.
Export experience involving shipments to global destinations and working with clear operating procedures.
Familiarity with the use of all forms of haulage, sea, road, rail and air for ADR and IMDG shipments.
Experience of managing client/customer relations with strong verbal and written communication.
International experience and exposure plus the ability to work with a global network of agents, suppliers, shipping lines, hauliers, and rail and air lines in other countries.
Experience of working in a high pressure environment whilst retaining the capacity to remain calm under pressure and resolve problems and challenges efficiently.
The ability to prioritise a large number of tasks to ensure accuracy, and deliver results with great attention to detail and a high sense of urgency.
