TRAINING | Personal and professional development

The Metro training team is responsible for internal skills and professional development and external training of customers, partners and suppliers.

The team’s remit encompasses induction and product training, mandatory and safety training, technical skills and soft skills, not typically taught in the classroom, such as the ability to work with a wide variety of people, time management and the ability to prioritise.

Undergraduate programme

The Metro placement year programme is designed to provide undergraduates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic and demanding logistics environment, to develop their people skills, as well as helping them build practical knowledge of the supply chain and automotive logistics.

Compliance Officer

Assistance and support to streamline and develop the legal and quality aspects of the Company

Job Specifications

Learn and understand the full Standard British International Forward Conditions and their implications on the business.
Coordinate all live claims, of whatever nature, currently ongoing on the business and settling, and finding where possible the best outcome for the Company and its Customer’s.
Review all T’s and C’s that come into the business, analysing any contradictions with the Company’s terms and suggest best solutions.
Coordinate and control RFI and RFQs that come into the business.
Fully understand and be conversant with all aspects of marine insurance and their implications.
Fully understand and be conversant with all aspects of INCOterms.
Conduct both 14001 and 9001 audits within the business and identify areas of non-compliance within the businesses pre-defined procedures suggesting improvements where possible.
Conduct internal audits across the Company and identify areas of non-compliance within the businesses pre-defined procedures suggesting improvements where possible.
Coordinate and analyse all supplier questionnaires that come into the business.
Involvement in ongoing internal projects within Company as defined by line and Senior Management.

Accounts Assistant

To support the Accounts team with daily duties, communicating with all areas of the Company and external stakeholders as required.

Job Specifications

Passing Purchase Invoices for payment.
Daily banking & logging of funds received and applying funds to relevant accounts.
Reconciling supplier’s statements.
Rejection of supplier invoices as required.
Preparing and paying purchase invoices for payment on open accounts or BACS.
Raising auto cheques for CAD Payments etc.
Opening of new suppliers and traders.
Maintaining all relevant and applicable sales & purchases ledgers & cash books.
Maintaining month end sales, purchases and cashbooks.
Checking and processing of bulk invoices as required.
Maintaining high risk schedule.
Transfer of funds between different divisions of the company and any related internal invoicing.

Personal Specifications

An understanding of freight forwarding/operations is advantageous.
Experience in the adoption and practice of specific company financial policies and procedures.
Experience dealing with large volumes of purchase queries and invoices.
Skilled at working with multiple currencies.
Good problem solving skills to enable prompt resolutions of queries or complaints.
Knowledge and utilisation of ‘Companies House’ including downloading of accounts and credit facility checks ie ICC reports.
A clear understanding of making payments in different currencies including US Dollars/GB Pounds Sterling/Euros.
Good verbal and written communication, to provide a professional image to customers and suppliers.
The capacity to work in a high pressure environment whilst remaining calm when under pressure.
The ability to interact with a global network of agents, suppliers, shipping lines, hauliers.
The skill to prioritise a large number of tasks to ensure accuracy, and deliver results with great attention to detail and a high sense of urgency.
Ocean Export Operator

Work within a department to ensure freight is moved to customer specifications, on time, with all necessary customs and legal documentation completed.

Job Specifications

Develop and build relationships to ensure a high level of customer service is provided to clients.
Arrange haulage with shipping line/hauliers.
Invoice and check freight prior to dispatch.
Ensure pre-alert documents are on hand as required.
Resolve/escalate requests and queries quickly and efficiently.
Communicate with overseas agents, customers and suppliers clearly and precisely to ensure that the freight is moved as per customer requirements.
Use customer ERP and SAP systems as and when required.
Accurately & timely reporting/escalation to department manager.

Personal Specifications

A minimum of 1 years’ experience in freight forwarding.
Export experience involving shipments to global destinations and working with clear operating procedures.
Familiarity with the use of all forms of haulage, sea, road, rail and air for ADR and IMDG shipments.
Experience of managing client/customer relations with strong verbal and written communication.
International experience and exposure plus the ability to work with a global network of agents, suppliers, shipping lines, hauliers, and rail and air lines in other countries.
Experience of working in a high pressure environment whilst retaining the capacity to remain calm under pressure and resolve problems and challenges efficiently.
The ability to prioritise a large number of tasks to ensure accuracy, and deliver results with great attention to detail and a high sense of urgency.
